“Your willingness to look at your darkness is what empowers you to changeIyanla Vanzant

Life often presents challenges that leave us questioning the very choices that brought us here. Through those challenges we can either lean in for support or look inward for guidance. Both of these take courage and most importantly a lending hand. Whether its challenges with interpersonal relationships, difficulty managing emotions, or prior traumatic experiences-a partner in therapy can be the guiding hand that is for you. Along with these challenges- race, sex, and ethnicity can add further nuance to these complicated situations. As a first generation Trinidadian woman, mother, wife, and student- I have experienced the ebbs and flows of constant life changes. This first-hand experience has allowed me to understand the unique circumstances that would benefit from therapy.

Making the initial decision to start therapy can be filled with trepidation, however the ability to learn the skills and knowledge to better your life and mental health are worth overcoming. Building skill sets that allow you to set healthy boundaries, engage in positive and uplifting lifestyles, while also staying true to yourself is part of the work we can do together. As your therapist I come to you as someone who is welcoming, accepting, trauma-informed and most importantly transparent in my approach to developing healthy coping mechanisms. I strive to be of service to my community and look forward to helping people of color, women, parents, and those who are struggling with feelings of anxiety and depression.

I have received my Bachelor of Arts degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice-CUNY and a Mental Health Counseling degree from John Jay. In addition, I am working on completing my resaearch on Trauma in BIPOC women with Borderline Personality Disorder.

Whether our paths cross or you have been motivated to enter therapy elsewhere, let this be your reminder to choose yourself and your mental health.
